License and bonding in Washington.

Where does a guy start for bonding and licensing in Washington state for tree removal business. Any idea of start up cost.

The state still doesn't require tree services to have a Contractor's license, unless stump grinding is offered. However, it's good to be professional. Liability for a small outfit runs about $1200 ayr for $1mm, for a couple friends that are contract climbers or run a small business. State licensing thru L&I is $100 for 2 yrs.... the bond cost will vary depending on your credit...or say, if you own a house. I think I pay $140 for either 2 or 3 years bond...but that price is hard to duplicate for a start-up....but no more than $135 a year would be my guess.
