Guys, I let a friend borrow my Iron and Oak splitter and when I got it back I noticed the control handle will not stay locked in the return position when running the ram back. I now have to hold it in when I return the ram. Hydraulic level is fine. I am fairly ignorant on the valve system so any help or tips would be great. Thank you.

slight adjustment

Sometimes it is as simple as a cold machine making the valve kick out easy...

There is a detent that is spring loaded, look for a nut holding a adjustment on the back of the valve. You should be able to tighten this by 1 turn and everything will be back to normal. What is likely is that the spool has a slight amount of wear on it. After about a million cords you have to rotate the spool 180 deg and wear the other side!

Your friend didn't do it. it just happens that way.

Thanks for the help. I realize he didn't do any damage. It would have happened the next time I went to use it most likely. LOL Appreciate the info.
