Mail Order Dogwood

I have a bareroot dogwood that I got as a free gift from a mail order company. I would love to plant it. It looks, however, that the tap root was broken when they dug it from the field. What are the chances it will grow? should I plant it or go ahead and throw it to the mulch pile?

Prune any broken roots cleanly, maybe dip in roottone and see what happens in the landscape.
