My Quadra Fire 5700 had a joke of an ash removal system. There's was a plate in the center that had to be removed then a lever on the side of the stove actuated a trap door that opened to the ash pan. I used it once. I fabricated a fully welded and sealed ash compartment with ash pan, sealed door and an air control on the door. I cut a 12"×12" square in the stove floor. I made a grate out of 3/4" solid stock. I then welded the ash compartment fully to the bottom of the stove. I also made a new secondary air tube manifold that is sealed. I added an air control to the secondary air control. Got rid of the legs and its a pedestal stove now. This stove is a coal eating machine now. No more worries of built up coals.
