Maple dropping leaves..........

this sugar maple was struck by lightning a few months back.
went around the trunk in a spiral fashion, followed a root out a ways and blew a 3' hole in the ground.

now, it's dropping leaves like crazy. the others near it are not. any correlation?

the photo of the leaves is one days' worth. today, they're really coming down.

Definitely a correlation. I'd prescribe bark tracing, pest prevention and root invigoration, see attached.
