My Maple tree has 2 small patches approximately 1 x 1 inch of clear gel which seems to be oozing out from the bark. When I brush them off, it is replaced very, very slowly with more gellatin-like substance. The tree is approximately 40 ft high and aside from this, appears to be healthy. What is this stuff?

A picture would help but it could be some kind of bacterial wet wood or slime flux
Also some rusts start out gelatinus in form
before becoming the rust as we know them
