McCulloch 6-10 oil reservoir - mystery hole on bar side

So I got this Super 6-10... well, as far as I know that's what it is - no tag to verify. Anyway, I noticed this little cotter pin stuck through a hole in the bar side of the oil reservoir. Pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to be

I can't figure out what the deal is with this though, I don't see anything in the IPL. I looked through a couple other random 10 series IPL and didn't see anything. Is that supposed to be a tank vent? Tip it to the side for extra oil "feature"?

Probably a dumb question, but that isn't a passage for the oil feed hose to get oil to the bar mount?

Otherwise i don't know, possibly a vent?

That’s a vent. Usually there’s a little felt piece held in by the cotter key that keeps oil from weeping out if you are doing a felling cut. But they disintegrate over time.

Ahh OK, so the cotter that's in there is legit, it's just missing the felt...
