I read Marks thread and Suger creek was mentioned in the thread I did a search and could not find a link. Can anyone help?

I recently bought an e-Bay saw that was advertised as a 1-790, I read 790 and won the auction.

It arrived the other day and the tag was a little hard to read, at first I thought it read 1-70...but upon closer examination it turns out to be a 1-76. Not quite the 103 cc 790 I was hoping for, but at 99 cc and with 130 PSI it should be a runner when I have some time (ha ha). I need to replace the plug wire or change the coil, and certainly the carburetor will need going through (McCulloch flat back) but it should be easy enough.

I will get some photo's in a day or two.

Is that the one that was in Florida. I remember seeing one on ebay bin that was down here.
 
Couple more videos of my recent Macs.

First, the Super 55A. Gave me fits yesterday. Spent hours chasing poor running/intermittent misses and ended changing up nearly every ignition part except the spark plug. Finally quit when the recoil spring broke. This morning I slapped in a new plug and all the problems disappeared. :bang: Also, have the kart carby rebuilt and installed. Was able to find the right diaphragms and gaskets to make it viable. Strange thing, doesn't have a needle and seat like any other carb I've worked on--uses a little check ball instead.

The pintail chain on this is in poor shape. I sharpened it as best I could, but it is hard to make it cut properly. Not to mention, the bottom section of spike is broken off. That is why you see the saw slide around the top of the log.


Second, the Super 550. I put the story up here last week of how I got it. One detail I didn't mention was the seller and I were from different time zones and neither of us realized it right away. Only after I got on the tollroad did it dawn on me and I called him up right away. Suddenly I was an hour late, and he was an hour early!

Oh well, I ended up with this. Thanks to CPR for providing me with a better clutch cover. Randy won't want this saw--it has the East coast spike.

There's the stuff. Looks and sounds great and I'm glad the parts worked out.

I've had a problem with a loop of pin-tail, too. It has plenty of life left in it so far as the cutters go, but it refuses to run true in the bar. It always leans over to one side (but not the other) in the bar and won't cut. I thought the bar might be junk, but after trying 2 different bars, I think it's the chain. This weekend I'll get by the local shop and get a loop whipped up and see what happens. It's the only thing holding up an otherwise evil sounding, bad@$$ Super 44 :chainsaw:.

Huh, that chain must have the links worn more on one side than the other. Talking about the part of the links that run on the surface of the bar rails. Either that or somehow the drive links are tweaked one way. Maybe the rim is worn so the chain rides that way?

Sprockets aren't the issue. I ran the saw with 2 different bars with equal results and have laid the chain in a 3rd, known good, bar and can only conclude it's the chain itself. How it got that way is beyond me and because it is the only example I have at present of McC pintail it shall maintain pride of place in the collection.

But it won't cut itself out of a wet paper bag and I'm jonesin' to lay into that Super 44 to see if the bite keeps up with the bark!

Well, try cutting a dry paper bag instead... :monkey:

In all seriousness, maybe that chain just wants to hang over the fireplace. :) It may be tired or something. :laugh:

I have a loop of 1/2" chisel that is shelled out that way as well. Looking closely, I can see the heel of the cutter actually worn to a razor edge where it is sinking into the wore bar groove. The bar can be fixed, the chain is junk.

Here is that Super 797 I just got.
When it came the DSP valve was missing. I got one from Lee.
Thanks Lee, Then it would not start, only on prime but would
not stay running. So ordered a carb kit. I had it on last night
but to late to try it. Its showing about 140 psi so its not as good
as it could be.

Cliff, I think that saw could handle a longer bar if you could find one.

Among the items that found there way to my place in the past week was a genuine McCulloch welded hard tip bar with a 32" cuttnig reach. I was pleasantly surprised by this one, even though it has been repainted it looks very nice and is the first McCulloch bar I have seen in that size.

There was a 32" Oregon roller nose bar in that lot as well, also painted (balck in this case) and again a good looking bar.

I will have to see if I can find a few more large displacement saws to provide a few convenient places to store those bars.

Who bought the pair of SP 125s out of Eugene Oregon? There were a bunch of "extra" bars that came with the package including some that were 36". Interested in knowing who did the buying and if they will be selling the extras?:msp_wink:

SP 125's!?!?! Where?!?!? Big bars?!!?? Where?!?!? 790 want one!!! What's going on? How's everyone doing?? :blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2:

They were equipped with 48" roller nose bars, one may have been 58".

I wanted to run it first to see if its alright be for
I put the longer bar on and make a chain up for it.
 
Hey Cliff-

That one sounds pretty good. I hope you had earplugs in. Those things are loud- when I was a kid, my dad would fire up the big Macs behind the barn and you could hear the echo all through the valley where we lived at the time. The valley was about 8 miles long and a mile wide.
