Does anyone know the whereabouts of an auger accessory for the 2 man Macs? For sale, that is. I have the saw, just need the auger and gearbox attachment for it.

Wish I could help you Jim but I haven't seen any of the earth auger shaft/flighting anywhere. The one that came with my 35 ice auger (blue one in the photo) is actually the wrong hand screw, guess it would pack the chips back into the hole in the ice rather than lift them out...

I also have the auger attachment for the 250 up in the attic without any shaft/flighting. Not sure I'd be willing to dig a hole with it if I had it in working condition.

Hi All,I just picked up a Mac 380 (87 cc.).It came with a puny 16 in.bar,no chain (can't figure out why only a 16 in.bar on an 87 cc saw).I'm looking for a bigger bar obviously, but I don't want to spend a ton of money.I was told about a Mac bar on Feebay for $75 + $23 shippiong, that's just too much for my budget,& then I have to get a chain too.The bar on Feebay is 34 in.,that's a little big for what I'm used to cutting - mostly tops from my neighbor's woods that've been logged out & an occasional blow down,no Sequoias here in my neck of the woods. If anyone has a bar 28-32 in.that they'd be willing to sell,or a B&C,or if I can be pointed in the right direction,it'd be greatly obliged.I was in contact with a fellow on FB who said he had the same bar as the one on Feebay, but he didn't want to sell it to me ($50+ shipping) because he was afraid that I'd be throwing my money away because he wasn't sure if the bar would fit, even though I assured him that it would. Thanks in advance!

Like Ron said,it looks like an SP80 or early SP81,but according to Acres's website that model number tag is same as Pro Mac 850 Super produced from 1983 to 1994 (which I've never seen nor heard of before) Same 5 cube/82cc displacement as the SP80,SP81,SP81E,Pro Mac 850.

Whatever it may be its different than my Pro Mac 850 which has correct tag 600439D in airbox.McCulloch was known to change models & their numbers frequently,so many parts were interchangeable between them also.Plus previous owners would swap parts when their saw was damaged in use often. That just adds to the confusion.DSC01444.JPG DSC01446.JPG DSC01447.JPG DSC01448.JPG

Someone has switched the tag on that MAC. A 600072D is a PM800. You can see how the tag is beat up. The lack of an operator's presence lever indicates that the tank and handle is from an older model. Super 850 model number is 600072F with serial numbers beginning with 12. The non-roller recoil would indicate that it is not an early SP80. It does look to have a PM850 muffler plate. Everything else seems consistent with an older SP81.

Just to confirm what Ron has already posted, 600072D is actually the Pro Mac 800, (Super PM800 is 60072F, see below). I also suspect someone changed the serial number tag since everything else on that saw is consistent with the SP80/81; black tank, the bottom handle brace, the full wrap bar, the clutch cover, the compression release, the muffler, etc. I believe the PM850 normally had the "5 sided" muffler, that one looks to me like the regular SP80/81 shape but I don't find any photos of that style cover on the SP80/81 saws. I did find one photo of the PM850 type muffler on an SP81 in my collection, I will have to change that next time I am moving the saws around.

Don't despair, a good running SP80 or 81 are just as much fun to run as a PM850. I am pretty sure you will find that one has points ignition, the PM850 was electronic and the later model SP81E saws with electronic ignition had the OPL in the handle like Ron pointed out.

I was the one on fac we book that turned you on to the 34" bar on ebay. Thats my saw in the above post lol. Shame that you cant swing the cost but i understand. Hopefully someone here can set you up.

The 44 is 72, Super 44 is 80, and the Super 44A is 87 cc...I expect there is a difference but only my 44 and 55 are runners at this time. If the 80 and 87 cc versions follow suit, I expect the Super A will be closer to a 250 Super than the other 87 cc models.

I've also got a 55 and a super 44A, the 44A (governor removed) flat out rips, I only have a normal 250 to compare it to, but it destroys it. I have a 1-72 (also 87ccs) but haven't got it running yet. That will be an interesting comparison.

The 55 is also pretty impressive and faster than you'd think with the big chain. The torque is also impressive if you've never run a gear drive.

Anyone here ever do any mods to a pm800 muffler. My pm700 sounds amazing and as you guys know we run these old saws cos we injoy them. The smell the vibrations the history that sits ting ting ting tinging away waiting patiently for its wot thrashing like it has done for decades well the 800 just doesnt have that sound to it imho and its not as nice to tune because of the noise eather and.... who really wants or needs a quieter 82cc saw? If your not wearing ear protection with a chainsaw then you probly never have and probably couldnt here the dam 800 at all by the time it came out any way so yea end of the ramble. Ear plugs and muffs l want to be needing with a old big heavy chainsaw mite as well get the hole experience.

Thats pritty darn good value for that muffler and thats a darn pritty 800 you got there hsell. I geuss i was harsh on the sound abit its not a bad sounding saw just quiet. Kids run away dogs houl and the cat hides for a few hours when i start the 700 up and my mate can hear it from across town. Its funny hearing a little 30 to 40cc plastic towney saw and then that. Even the 310 has a good wee bark n crackle to it.
