MS270 coil/ignition dead?

This saw had good spark before the new piston and rings were installed. Put it all together and no spark.

What could have killed the ignition?

MS270/280's are in a class by themselves. The coils for these are plentiful only at the dealer level. :-(

Yep, that was the problem.

I heated the coil with a heat gun, now it works.

So I have heard of this "heat-gun cure" for coils. Any reason for why this works?

ok now you have me curious on the heat gun treatment for the coil could someone tell how it works and what you have to do

Drives out water maybe? That sounds very short-term. I have an echo CS8000 that sparks, but the readings are not in spec, and it doesn't fire. Expensive part. So how much heat? how long?
