I thought of the easiest way to explain this last night..

If you bought a :

440 R
460 R
660 R

All three have the same inner dawg.

The 440 and 660 have the same outer dawg.

The 460 has the different outer exclusive to itself.
Your 660s must be different to here in Australia ours have a large dog like the 460 but the bottom spikes angle slightly upwards to stop it pulling the bar into the wood and stalling the chain .

Oh my god...

I'm talking about if they fit and line up.

Those dawgs you have pictured come on a standard handle 660, not an R model. But the principal is the same, you could put them on a 440 and they would line up just fine. If you put them on a 460 they wouldn't line up properly.

The difference being that big old capital R- don't think we get the R for Rescue gear over here, nor the W for Western :)
We just buy 460's with the double spikes attached from the factory.

You will like the larger spikes with the exterior chain catcher, it is a game changer with keeping the saw from tipping over so the bar nose and chain doesn't hit the ground especially running with a longer bar. This set of spikes allows my 400 with a 25" bar to sit on the ground, concrete, etc rock solid.
Here are the Stihl spikes I run on my saws and they are a matched pair and made for the 440 to 661.
Stihl put a threaded nut on the inner spike top hole to eliminate the nut that required a wrench if you wanted to remove the inner spike for any reason.
Part Numbers are:
Inner: 1144 660 0802
Outer: 1144 664 0504

These spikes will also fit the 362 and 400 with slight modification using a die grinder to the bottom of the spike for chassis interference and slight elongation to the bolt holes on the outer spike, photo of the 362 and 400 with same spikes. Pic added for size comparison since they look small not on the saw.

The spike finally came in today. Threw it in and low and behold they line up! I think they look pretty good.

thanks to everyone who commented and big thanks to SAWMIKAZE. You hit the nail
On the head with the correct part number.

Anyone know if the 044/440 had the same offset issue as the 046/460/461?

For sure an 046/460/461 is an 1122 inside dawg and an 1128 outside dawg, I've got lots of these saws and know that's the way they are all setup.

But, I don't have any 044/440's and I'm not sure if they use the same offset.

Wow nice big set of spikes, don't forget to add the chain catcher on the bottom of those spikes so you can remove the one off of your saw.
External chain catcher on the spikes makes it much more easier with swapping out bars and or chains.
