"flail" or cutter wheel"?

A long time ago I saw a hammer knife MTD chipper. Looked like it could do up to maybe 3"- 4" material. I liked it cause the set up was the same as a tub grinder, it had a series of hammers that would pulverize the material.
Is this the one you have?
As for maintenance I believe the chipper you are talking about is no longer in production.
Your best bet is to develop a good relationship with an excellent mechanic who works on small engines.
Your post suggests you are not a gear head.
Now thats not a bad thing, hard to understand by some folks here on this board maybe but not a bad thing.
The suggestions already posted are (even tho abrasive) good.
Get a manual
do the obvious; check the fluids, air etc
anything more serious run to the shop.
One more thing-very important
Whenever running a machine like the one you have DONT MAX IT OUT
feed it slow, feed it little crap you know it can take without bogging down.
These machines are best used for yard cuttings like flowers, or little shrub cuttings maybe a twig or to.
BUT they are excellent for making little piles of mulch, my mom has one and she loves it.
I cannot stand using it it is just to weak.
Give me some real horsepower and some big ass wood to chip and i am happy.

Ahh, I get it...

You're not literate enough to READ the owners' manual!

You're welcome for the link; it's so nice to see my rare effort on an informative reply was deeply appreciated.
