My Birch Looks Infested

Crap... after working to save the split side of the tree, the other side started oozing sap heavily this morning, down low. I am attaching some pics for you to take a look at, but it appears to be the birch borer. I had thought the river birches were resistant, but I guess that doesn't equal immune.

Any way to treat this?

Yup, a horizontal line of pecked hokes. It could not be a borer beccause it did not bore into the wood, it just pecked the bark.

Douse the area with tabasco sauce to repel the peckers.
