We've got a bunch of dead and down 24-inch diameter white pine logs about 20 inches long I bucked up this spring. Most of them we're keeping as campfire seats, but I'm going to Svedish Candleize a couple next MemDayWknd for the family reunion.

Planning on using the pie-slice 3-cut method detailed in this thread. Should be fun. :) :)

I've got another idea for the swedish candle. Ever since i read the first post on this i have been counting the days until the weather drops below 90 so i can stand to be near a campfire. While watching some stupid reality tv show last night, my mind wondered off to thinking about the swedish candle log and camping. Normally when i camp the main thing to do is cook and eat. Thinking of doing both reminded me of my Dutch oven and then i had the idea of using a smaller version of the swedish candle to heat a dutch oven being hung from a tripod. I like to use my d.o. from a tripod to do things like stews and chili, that way i get to play with fire instead of charcoal. I figure you can take a log around 6" tall and make the 3 cuts to end up with 6 pie shapes about 3 to 4" deep and the flame may not be to high. With such a short long you may have to make 2 or 3 of them depending on how long you want to cook. But that means that you just get to cut more wood! This was just an idea i had and figured it was worth a try. What do you guys think?

Now You Keep Yer Helmet on Laars!!!!

Youse guys are not talkin' right. You haf tu talk vid dur Scandihoovian accent. Yah.

SthilyinEly should have it down gud, you betcha.

Get vid dur program...hey or quit makin' dur candles!

Mebbe you should eat some lutefisk before makin' dur candles.

Ve don understand because yu are talkin' vidout dur accent. Hagar the Horrible's dog even goes voof.

Oh Dear Lord, please not vit der lutefisk. I've already made vit the eating of der lutefisk and der drinking of der vierd skanderhoovian liquer vit der anise seeds in it. ARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!! That was some nasty stuff.........you betcha!:dizzy:

One of my good buds from high school is of Norveegan descent. After we graduated HS and were somewhat near drinking age, his Dad (who is something like 4th gen American and has no Norrrrrrrrrvaaaaaaaayyy accent to speak of) would drag out some Lutefisk and nasty Norveeeeejan booze on nights when his old lady (my friend's Mom) was out of town.

We'd smoke good cigars, watch movies (Once Upon A Time in the West, The Wild Bunch, etc), drink strange booze, and in general have a grand time. One night he got some lutefisk and the afforementioned Norvay booze sent to him from Scanderhoovia, and we'd had to consume some of each several times throughout the evening. Yucka.....

Now gimme my JD Single Barrel and let me light one of these damn sveedish candles ya!!

In Tennessee it not called an accent, its called a twang!:greenchainsaw:

I'm tinkin it is a lilt. My mom's side of da family was Scandihoovian/Irish cowboys. Vat a mix, hey.

I spent 2 vunderful years in Nort Visconsin, right smack dab against the UP.
Had a hard time understanding dur yoopers sum times. But lapsed right into da lilt wid dur norsky/finlander cheeseheads. Kinda liked it dere except fer no mountains, summer humidity and dur ticks. TICKS!

My candle teory is dat the taller dey are, da more dey will draft and da hotter dey vill burn. A friend has a hemlock I can saw away on, mebbe get different lengths, hey and see.

I've noticed that everyone is making these candles out of pine or cedar. Will a hard wood log like maple work? Have plenty of hard wood but nothing soft like pine and would love to try one at the next campfire.

Which style performs better, the hollowed out center or the pie cuts down from the top? In my brief tests the hollow center does better but I've only burnt 1 of each. They were both ~12"X12" logs. For the moment I don't have anything longer. I don't know if length or diameter have a huge impact or not.
