Sorry to hear the results from your repair shop, Ugh. But one of my questions to you was going to be "Did you pull the muffler, and turn the engine over by hand and look inside the exhaust port?" The symptom that you have could very well be the piston and cylinder. The Model 550 that I rebuilt, I replaced the Piston and Cylinder on that one. I hope you don't have to pay too much to get the chainsaw back from the repair shop, and I'm sure If you break the chainsaw down into parts, you can get a few dollars for it that way.
 
Yes but without a pressure test I don't know if an air leak caused the top end to burn up or if it's the carb needing the new updates several people have told me about...I don't wanna put a new top end on it and trash that one too ya know?
 
I would tell the shop to pressure vac test or guarantee 100% coverage if the new p&c score for 2 years
