Hard to beat for an all around saw...
Hard to beat for an all around saw...
here's something you need to learn if you are going to be on this site.
the saw youu want is not made
the saw you need is not made.
you need a dozen saws to get by now.

...What's the alternative to heavier saws and more HP?... For cutting 4-5 cords of firewood a year, including an occasional large tree, it's just I wanted, and as much as I want to lug around.
I thought the answer was always Stihl 361?

The alternative is uncorking that 361 muffler and dialing in the A/F mixture!
It won't hurt anything (will be louder though) and ought to help by letting the motor breathe better. Mine is a blatant copy of Andy's (Lakeside53) and uses a Stihl spark arrestor screen for the additional port. The parts & supplies to DIY should come in at a $20 bill.
#4223 141 9000 fire screen
#4223 141 6600 buckle
#4203 121 2700 limiter caps (2)
#5910 890 4500 limiter cap tool
A chain catcher kit (double felling spikes with a roller) should be on your wish list as well: #1135 650 7750. You might as well thread a pair of MS441 bar studs on there too: #1138 664 2400 These have a tapered 'shoulder' that engage the cover better, and have a non-threaded tip. Call that another $50 bill. Here's a couple older threads on these:
