can I put a 25inch bar on my new ms310 and a 28" bar on my ms390 and have enough power to run them efficiently without problems ?

The 390 could run either bar but that 310 , thats pushing it abit. It could run it but power in a full 25 inch cut may be lacking....

18- 20" bar as long as I would go on the 310 and I think you might be pushing the 390 to get the 25" to run. The 390 will probably turn the chain in pine but in hardwood like oak and hickory it will be laboring. Forget about the 28" until you have a 440, 460 or 066. be careful. :)

I have run the 390 with a 25 in Oak, burried!!! It will do it, I would not want to do it everyday though!! I looked at getting a 28 also, my dealer said "NOOO WAY DUDE!!" I think he's right. The old cataloge said you could, the new one doesn't. I have also seen a 460 with a 32 and I would not want to run that saw al day either!!! If you feel like spending the money, try it, I don't think you will be happy, but you will have the bar to put on a bigger saw at least, just my thoughts on it.

Yea.. I think I will keep the 310 with the 20inch and purchase a 25" bar for the 390 ... I went to the store I buy my saws from and they had a 390 set up with a 28" bar on it..So that is why I asked.... I appreciate everyones comments.

Sthil manual calls for a 16, 18, 20, 24 inch bar for the 310. There is a special note attached for the 24 inch bar that it must be running a 3/8inch sprocket.
Part# for the bar is (Special Rollomatic S bar) 3003-000-9630.

These two 24 inch bars do not call for a 3/8 sprocket, Rollomatic S part #3003-000-8830 and also Duromatic 3003-000-5531.
