Well after a long day at work I came home to find a new saw in the barn :greenchainsaw:
Last week my neighbor told me about a freind of his who had a old McCulloch he wanted to get rid of, I told Billy to let me know what he wanted and I'd get in tough if I was interested. Well today I get home and dad said Billy droped it off today and said the owner didnt want a thing for it he just wanted it saved from the scrap heap ....... No problem.
Here she be, Mac 660 wearing a 24" bar and 404 chain, I cant get over the shape its in, I didnt check compression yet but it feals right on par with my 066, when I get a little time I'll be cleaning it up and I'll get it running again.
Not much paint off the bottom and the bar looks real good, I doubt it has many hours on it
The only flaw is a little JB weld repair to the case on the upper corner just above the bar. Storry goes it got ran over by a dozer at one point and was repaired, so far the JB weld and a hose clamp on the muffler are the only battle scars that I see. All in all not to bad IMHO
Heres the old Mac my grandfather had back in the day, the tag is gone but its about the same physical size as the 660 and is also wearing a 24" bar. Being real excited about the 660 I decided to pull this out of the attic for a couple pics.
Hopefully someone who is more in tune with the macs can tell me a little more about grandpas saw here. Dad claims it needs a clutch but after pulling it over I'm guessing a set of rings to. The muffler is off and the piston looks good so hopefully the rings just stuck from sitting for the past 25 years.
