Hello- I purchased a used osburn 2400 that the previous owner cut a metal angle piece from the front of the stove. He claimed he was burning his hand on the piece when loading. I noticed today on startup the thing really bellows smoke out the door way more than my highlander ever did. Is this metal piece missing having a negative effect on the burner itself?

Seems to me the only thing that metal piece did was "air wash" the door to keep it clean. The guy I bought it from said he had the same problem so I am wondering if there is something possibly blocking air flow? My old burner was an EPA stove and it worked fine, the guy I purchased this stove from didn't have a problem with his new stove. Anyone have some advice?
