My brand new BG55 leaf blower starts poorly. I also know 2 neighbors that bought new ones and it is the same.

You have to pull and then part choke , and then full choke, then part choke, etc. for about 5 minutes, then it runs great.

My wife would like to use it but cannot ever get it started.

Are you trying to start it no choke first then part choke then full choke then part choke again?

Try starting it like it is menat to be started full choke until the engine "pops" then choke off or half pull a few times and it will start.

I have a BG 85 and I put it on full choke pull 3-5 times, it will start and idle on full choke for a few seconds, then I put the choke off and I am good to go!
