Hi everyone, longtime no post. Anyway as the title suggests I’m “restoreing” a 1200a I’m powder coating the parts. The body of the saw is going to be lime green and the front handle, flywheel screen, and the air filter cover will be a metallic copper. Not the original colour I know but I wanted to make it min. Anyway I’m getting to the point that I need to powder coat the engine side cover. I assume the oil seal won’t survive the heat or removing it. Dose anyone have a part # of a aftermarket one that will fit. I would take it out and measure it. But I can be hard to get that kind of stuff where I live. It would be nice to have them on hand first. Right now it runs so even if it doesn’t get powder coated I could paint it and it would be ready to go. I’ll post pics of the progress soon

Too bad nobody responded to this--it's not a flashy Stihl or big CC saw. The flywheel seal is 427656, aftermarket CR5662, the PTO side is 428128. I've never encountered that 2nd seal on my saws and so have never needed to measure and cross it over. That said, googling those part numbers brings up some for sale on Ebay. Alternatively, you call Rottman's in Michigan with those numbers, see what they have. Either way, I have no doubt the PTO seal, once you measure it up, will be a common aftermarket size. They did things smart and simple (those 2 terms are not mutually exclusive) back then. Finally, don't get hung up on the double-lip seal nonsense. Most, if not all, saws of that era are single lip and have lasted decades. You will be more likely to find your seals dried out and cracked--double-lips won't prevent this.

Thanks Chris hind site I should have posted in the pioneer section. Hop to get it all powder coated this weekend

So I took the PTO side seal out and it was bad from day one.I did not break the spring Pretty sure it’s original the saw seems like it hasn’t got much use. Says Canada on the seal anyway. Hers some pics. The seal is 1” od by .500” I’d (shaft size)exactly by .200” width do I want a seal smaller than the shaft or same size?

Who knows with the spring. They fail and saw is probably 50 years old.

Order by the dimensions you gave, don't fudge the shaft and bore sizes because the manufacturer accounts for that. Is there room for a slightly thicker seal--.250".
SKF doesn't show a good interchange but Dichtomatik shows some.

I think I'd opt for the 051019VTC.

Call up your good local bearing supplier, hopefully he can order these.

I don’t think thicker will work but I would have to look at it again there is a lot of room behind it but weather the seal will go down that far idk. 50 thou isn’t that much

Looks like you have really dressed the old girl up. 👍

I would take that seal into a bearing supply as suggested above, let them see it and measure it instore so they can compare it to what they have in stock, or what they can order.
You can bet your boots it is not a specific seal for that application and there will be other things that use or used the same seal- hopefully it is still a common stock item.

So I got some more done. The seal for the PTO side was a bit wider than the original so it sticks out about 0.050” but everything went together fine. I have everything done except the muffler. I picked up this high heat paint. Not sure if it goes with the colours I have. I wanted to do something besides black. Any thoughts? Also dose anyone have an air filter for this beast. It never had one when I got it
