Hello all,
Following on from my mac15 thread , my pioneer 650 has arrived. Well used but very clean, but had no spark. Quick strip down and points clean and she set off sparking. I then thought should I clean the fuel system ? Or just put some fuel in and give it a go? Imagine my shock when I removed the fuel cap, and it was full of fuel. It had been boxed up and packaged and mailed 150 miles full of fuel!! Probably 10 yr old at least. Anyway the fuel was like syrup so I emptied the tank, cleaned the filter bowl and tank fuel lines and filters. There was a lot of black gunk in the bottom of the tank and filter bowl. Looked at the carb it was very clean but diaphrams were very hard. Fit carb overall kit but trouble I have is that it won’t draw fuel up in to the filter bowl? If I attach a vacuum to the exit side of the filter it fills the glass bowl but as soon as I remove the vacuum the fuel runs straight back into the tank. Is something missing or have I missed something?
Many thanks Phil

Thank you , obviously the rubber pipe has expanded being sat for however long in a tank of oily fuel, I did wonder but thought it might be ok. Obviously not ! It does run as sweet as a nut when fuel is put through the air filter body. I will get some fresh fuel line and try that.
Many thanks.

The junction of the main fuel line from the tank to the fuel bowl, then that short line between the bowl and carb plus the gasket between the glass bowl and metal housing must all be air tight. This was always a problem spot for air leaks with these saws. The small felt filter in the fuel bowl will get hard and it won`t pass fuel so we changed them out every year, usually in the fall just before our biggest amount of cutting occurred.

Thanks, I hope I can get it to run for more than 10 seconds though!!! Getting closer and runs a bit longer with every tinker. Can’t wait to get it running properly, it sounds fantastic. Still need to replace pickup pipe and transfer pipe as still drawing air in.
Cheers.
