Excellent tips and demonstration. Thanks for posting this.

Great how-to thread.
Plastic is tough to work, you got good results.

Everyone remember to clean the part of all grit before polishing. The cloth wheel and polish media will pick up any grit and scratch the part. Keep the wheel clean too.
If you use different grit polishing media use a different wheel with each.

Hi it's been a week or two sense I left off.
Here is the complete set for my 084.

What's sad is there going back into service.
No shelf queens here.
A few days from now I'll start on the fuel tank segment.
I have to give the wife back her half of the garage because the snow is falling here.
Thank you guys for all the positive input.

awesome stuff there.. looks like my 084 will be gleaming like new also thanks to yr thread.

also great to see the black inscriptions didnt get cut away.. i was really worried about that. was there any thing special you did over them.? did u sand over them or only polished?

Nice work! I have to ask, how does it hold up? Do they stay shiny a long time or quickly oxidize again? I ask because I've polished plastic headlights to remove the yellowing and oxidation. In that instance, it doesn't last long.

I did the same to my 440 magnum a year ago and it does start to oxidize but if you use your saw it's gonna get funky again.
The only reason I do this is because is if I spend all that time and money rebuilding, I like my equipment to look nice and to add to the resale value.

Looks like the tank plastic restoration may be delayed. I have a candidate ( Stihl 044 tank) that I'd like to
volunteer. If it were not so blah looking it would be on the saw I just restored.

That just crazy, The tank I'm restoring at this very moment is off a early 044.
"Results coming soon".
Here's a sneak peak, another filter cover off my newly acquired of 031AV.
