Thanks for the insight guys, I am going to be getting temps on the next job for sure just to get an idea of where I am with that. I am curious if a poor fitting hose would cause a lean condition, and then it's a lost cause. 160mm is the length spec, I have been using 1/8" ID hose and I wonder if I might try a tighter fitting pure silicone hose for a better long term seal. I will update when I can. Once I get it to where I can put a load on it I should be able to re-tune, but the carb is worn where the idle set screw is, the threads are iffy and its a pain to keep the idle set. I might look around for another carb so if anyone has any ideas about that I would love to hear em.

difficulty holding a tune at idle can also indicate air leaks like crank seals etc. are you sure it's the threads moving the screw? Air leaks would contribute to running lean and running hot
