plum trees

I had three plum trees a little more half the size of my two story house when I moved in 6 years ago, now I have one. First they all were attacked by japanese beetles which killed one ,then the next summer one had very few leaves and had dead branches and then I noticed small holes all over it, that summer it died. I have one left and it looks okay right now is there anything I can do to keep this one alive? Thanks, Michele in Ohio

I would spray the tree in late april when the bugs start coming out. Just some preventative maintenance.
