the gear i have for climbing is basic, ultra glide saddle, 120 ft true blue, i use the swabich for acc. and dec. a few biners and thats about it. but when it comes to shovel work some say i was born with one in hands

Are you Certified?
If so C.A's can command as much as $125.00 hr just for looking at trees and consulting with homeowners.

Free Estimates-- I dont do it. If they ask for free estimates theyare price shopping and really dont care about trees, I dont want customers like that.
Even thou I am considerably less expensive than my competiors they will never know it.

$125 an hour to look at trees, that is cool, I am moving to your side of town:) Now that I have my Municipal specialist also can I get $200?

Tree planter admits to being a novice, is self taught as a climber with a few DAYS experience, I would strongly urge him not to show up at an estimate with a bill for $125.00 for a look-see.
Tree Planter, congrats on getting your CA, don't know how they let sit for test with only a few DAYS experience, :dizzy: but that is for a another thread.
As for rates per hour, it depends on your area, you will not be paid the same in New York City as working a farm in Nebraska. I am asssuming you are looking for work with a company in your area. Find a company that is licensed, insured, and does quality work, non-spike trims, no topping, the bigger companies will usually all start you at the bottom end of the pay scale until they see what you can do. This area large companies, Davey, Bartlett, pay an extra $1.00 an hour for CA, but if you are just starting out with minimal climbing experience, I doubt they will give it to you. Buy a copy of the tree climbers companion, available from some sponsors here on the site and read it, practice out the yard low to the ground until you feel completly comfortable with the techniques. Best of luck to you.

You've got to be kidding that is all they pay.. What a farce.

i own the book T.C.C. already it has a wealth of info but what i need is a better understanding of disease if u could name a book that reads in lamens terms for that i would be gratful

or even a book for disorders abiotic and biotic but something that can be understood with the general direction on how to cure or slow down the causulties

The ISA has a pretty good list of different books with the topics you are looking for. ISA-arbor.com, check it out.

$1.00 an hour = extra $2080.00 based on flat 40 hour week. CA test cost $125.00 + $125.00 for ISA membership, plus $75.00 for test study guide. Total $325.00 plus some study time for a 2k return the first year
not that bad an investment in my opinion.

Davey guys top and climb with spikes no matter, here in BC. Now, does being a C.A. really mean anything? Depends, for putting the shine on clients it sounds good, for climbing trees and actually working, hmmm. A man with climbing experience is worth way more than a beginner, ISA or not. Get out there and do some work, day after day, for a couple of years, then you can say "I am a good climber and I am ISA certified". Xtreme trees "a buck an hour-what a farce" How about thats all its really worth?

It's worth whatever you can sell it for.
To some customers that means hundreds ...
To others it means 0
