retard timing by length of ignition lead?

  1. That would be an inductor.

  2. It would retard the spark. (How much would depend on the number of turns and some other variables. Calculating this is left as an exercise for the reader. )

  3. Changing the spacing between the coils would change the inductance, thus changing the delay. See above re: calculations.

  4. Primary.

How's my grade, teacher? :D



Please note: I didn't say you could change the spark timing enough to do any good in the real world. But the right instruments would show the delay.
