does return line from valve to tank have to be 3/4 or will 1/2 work. its a 16 gpm pump.

thanks,
matt

also is return line under much pressure?

thanks,
matt

no...it's under very little pressure.

your port on your control valve should determine the size of your return line. most are 3/4".

you can always go to a bigger size, but never a smaller size.

and, if it matters, this is the only line where you would put a filter.

Amen to both of MGA's comments. You'll build up quite a bit of back pressure with 16 GPM in a 1/2" line. That translates into wasting power, and creating unnecessary heat. You don't want either one on a log splitter.
Theoretically, you can run any amount of flow through a small line, but it takes pressure to do it. The larger the line, the less back pressure. It takes power to create pressure.

Brute force!

1/2 inch lines and 16 GPM.

That explains why I ended up with a 15hp engine on a 16 GPM pump on my rig!

I will swap them to 3/4, eventually. Maybe while I am at it go to a 22 gpm pump
