roughening parts

from 440 service manual:

If the brake band can be reused,
clean and roughen the entire
friction surface

If the clutch drum can be reused,
clean and roughen the friction
surface.

What do I use to roughen these surfaces? I've only cleaned them in the past, but now have discovered the service manual. :msp_smile:

Sandpaper.

It just means Knock the glaze off the shiny parts.

Yep, sandpaper. Scuffing it up results in more friction which is the desired result.

ya, you have to use special order stihl flexible abrasive compound roughening cloth (Imported), at $99.99 a sheet...a small sheet...but, only platinum dipped gold dealer with diamond clusters level techs and above are trained well enough to use it, so..well..there ya go...
