IMG_20180208_170948.jpg After reading all this I had to try 3/8lp on my 490. I knew those poulan bars would come in handy for something. Chain needs an extra DL and get ahold of homelite410 for a rim.

what mount is that bar? A041?if so i would be real curious how it cuts and what rim you get....
Pretty sure that's what it is. My 3400 and 590 will swap bars also if I remember correctly. The echo bar has a separate hole for the oiler. The poulan bar will feed oil threw the top chain adjuster hole it lines up with the oiler perfect. Hopefully I can get the rim from Homelite410. If I like it setup this way I'll probly get a nicer bar.

I think it would rip with an 18 inch echo lo pro....like the cs 400 saws come with...i bet with a 16 inch low pro it will spit chips like a race horse....are you miller mods saws on you tube?

last year i was walking through walmart and they had those bars on clearance nine something an 11 for the combos i bought them all.....the 18 inch never went on clearance i had my wife who is in there alot... check every few days.... they never did and then they were gone......

Stihl sells the MS250 and MS251 with the 18" .325 chain around these parts.

It cut just fine with the 18" 325 0.063 setup, but as I knew (and you did too), it's MUCH faster with the 16" Picco setup. I'm probably going to try an 18" Picco setup next. I'm curious about the stock 6 tooth sprocket vs trying a 7 tooth.

Now you guys can return to arguing amongst yourselves.

By the way, I would post the videos and times, but Brad has used every saw ever made with every combination of b&c. He can describe it better than a video could show it :-D

Well yeah, it cuts faster with a 16" bar and chain!!

So what is the point? You/we have thrown out at least 8 variables, and well yeah, a 16" bar and chain cuts faster than an 18"!!!!

Now the thread has gone totally worthless!

We have variables on semi-chisel vs. full,
.325 vs picco,
16 inch vs. 18 inch,

hell, box that trifecta!! The odds of getting it right are way up there!

So this thread is a total waste.

will be curious to your results with the 18" p. AND Brad does it for a living so he has to know what combos work and what don't with which saw.

Let me clarify,, so you dont have to poop on it. I want to compare the 18" picco to the 18" .325. It basically comes down to i like my saws and i like seeing what they are capable of.

Stihl sells the MS241 with the 16-18" .325 chain in the UK and 3/8 P is not listed as an option under accessories.
Owners manual list both .325 and 3/8 P as an option for this saw.
I run mine with .325 RM since most off my cutting is smaler spruce, limbing spruce is faster with the .325 RM than 3/8 P PS or PS3 the PM would be an option but cuts slower limbing spruce.

View attachment 637931 Got my Pico rim from Homelite410 the other day. View attachment 637932 Should have a chain tomorrow or Friday to try it out. @Overkill338 how did you like the .325 on the 241?

I like it a lot. I bought another 18" bar and 7 tooth 325 sprocket. It cuts great, I'm really impressed. Even through a 16" maple, it still cut great.

I just got done fixing a MS170, I swapped on a 14" Picco bar on it with a semi chisel chain. I also swapped on the bucking spikes from a locked up Ms250, and used the 250 chain Adjuster to swap the 170 to a side adjuster and got rid of the front adjuster. I then converted a MS180C to a 16" 0.050" Picco bar and used my $3 Chinese chain on it. The Chinese chain isn't chromed like a Stihl chain, but it cuts marvelously.
