Saw started running fast

I was cutting out notches in cabin logs this weekend with my Husqvarna 51 when it started idling real high, just wouldn't slow down.

I shut it down and restarted a couple of times, same thing.

I checked and found the air filter had popped off and there was dirt in the carb intake.

Does this sound like an air leak or a dirty carb?

Bet you got somthing into a jet, and making it run bad. Time to take the carb off for a good cleaning.

You already know the carb could use a cleaning, so might as well start there. I have my doubts that will fix it though.

Ended the day using my 395xp with a 28" bar to cut the 6" notches.

Could it be that as the filter got dirty you've increased the idle setting on the carb to keep it running?

Might be as simple as re-adjusting the idle for the clean air filter.
