I picked up this Roper built Sears 3.7 for free. I replaced all of the fuel and oil lines and fuel filter. Still wouldnt run. So I went through the carb and found the diaphragms very stiff. I couldnt find any info or parts for the Nikki carb but through trial and error I found that Tillotson HS diaphragms fit it but I had to grind the tit of the metering diaphragm because this doesnt use a forked lever.
I was able to get it running and tuned pretty well. It holds an idle and revs out decent. I've only made two test cuts with it but it seems to have plenty of power in the cut.
The problem I seem to be having is this thing wont start for nothing. If I prime the carb it will fire right up and run good. I havent put a gauge on it, but compression is wicked, it will literally hang from the rope without the compression release and the piston and cylinder look perfect.
Anybody got ideas of what to check next? Thinking of trying to convert it to a Tilly HS.
