Shindaiwa 488 muffler mod

I am thinking of doing a muffler mod to my 488 that has the adjustable carb. What i want to do is take out the tube behind the screen then replace the spark arrestor screen and cover. Does this sound ok and is there much performance improvement?

If the carb on your saw does not have the adjustable high screw then
DO NOT modify the muffler, as you will have no way to retune the saw
so it doesn't cook the piston and destroy the cylinder.
The carb off a 490 pre EPA crap, Shindaiwa has an adjustable high screw, but uses
a D type screwdriver.

Mine is a 488p with the adjustable high screw. It adjusts with a flathead screwdriver.

I planned on doing that very thing with my 488 after I get a carb that is adjustable.
