Keep the bark strippin squirrels off the tree

Nice looking tree! Keep the :censored: squirrels off of it!!!

We have a 12 year old tree and the squirrels stripped nearly all the bark off of it right down to the white wood in many areas. They did this for 2 years despite us trapping what we thought were the culprits. Last year, the first year after the damage the tree had near normal growth surprisingly. However this year after more bark was removed the tree has only about 3 inches of new growth, no cones and many dead branches. I will be surprised if it comes back next Spring.

Unfortunately we planted it in honor of our dog's who passed away that year.

Should've expanded the mulch ring instead of just cutting off all the low limbs, ruins what becomes a really awesome trunk on those trees. They do well in these parts, I just climbed a pair of hundred footers a few weeks back, such neat trees. And I've seen similar growth rates with established, young trees.
