spots on tree?

I am new to this site,I am from ************.I have noticed spots(almost look like light green paint) all over the trees on our lot.It is on a couple of mature dogwoods,and on a couple of very large trees (not sure what type) but this disease seems to be on every type we have to some degree.The main symptom that I can tell is branches dying and falling off.I have to go out and clean my yard up before I mow now as not to hit them.It is both large and small branches falling off,but there is no visible effect on the leaves.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the bark? It's probably just lichens they are not harmful to the tree you have something else going on. Do you see any of the same stuff growing on rocks too?
