I have a couple of the older Oregon filing guides. Surprisingly a "Flat " file will fit right in them like they were made to. I modified them a little to better suit my needs.
I have always used this to sharpen my competition chains and it works excellent,I can get the angles I want and razor sharp teeth every time!
A shop I worked at had 2 types of flat file available,one with teeth straight across the file and the other with the teeth at an angle across the file. I could never decide which was better,and I don't remember the brand names of them now...They are getting hard to find here now.
Can anyone recommend the best flat files available now?

If you're filing race chains, I still prefer the Pferd double bevel files. My second choice is the Save Edge double bevel file.
Nothing wrong with the Save Edge files, they just have a little different feel while they're cutting.
