Ok, so here is what I am thinking about. My 025 could use a set of rings. Not a problem. My question is, has anyone heard of a domed piston for this saw? I would like to have a bit more muscle to it. As of now the compression is hovering in the 130PSI area. My thinking is that a domed piston would raise the compression a bit giving the saw a bit more pizzazz. The saw is the 42MM, thanks Ken
 
Crisspix, thanks for the link. My second thought was to try and use Alumaloy and make a small dome on the center of the piston. Has anyone ever tried something as crazy as this? The Alumaloy says it can stand heat temperatures up to 750 degrease before melting. Any information would be helpful. Ken
 
025/250 is generally one of the hardest to pull homeowner saws they made...

That’s too low of a melting point. Plus, the dome makes the piston heavier. That’s not a PRO model, so their will be limited options for it

I tig welded an 039 slug once for a member, but he never finalized how it ran. He disappeared from the forum.

I forget the alloy Of the filler rod, but it is supposed to be the closest to piston material that exists, and I have enough to last me a lifetime at this point.

Beautiful work. :bowdown:Iv done done dirt bike heads by Filling in the dome in the head and turning it pretty on the lathe. Never done a piston
 
Not to offend..... but why bother trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear?
At the end of the day you might make a small percentage gain for large cost and additional stress to a consumer/homeowner saw if indeed it could be done by someone making a domed piston for you as an off the shelf option does not exist.

Keep the air filter clean, open the muffler a bit, advance the timing a tad, tune it well, keep the chain razor sharp and be happy with the best you can get from that.

If you want to experiment and have fun, go find an old 064 and slap a 395 top end on it- much more worthwhile. ;)
