Stihl 028 wood boss tank fix?and top end question.

Fixing this 028 woodboss for friend.fuel tank has a leak at the cover.is there a good sealant i could to fix this?also needs a new piston and ring.can this saw be upgraded to a 46mm super top end?

I use Motoseal to seal up about everything, available at NAPA, Oreillys, As for the upgrade to Super, most Supers are just 1 or 2 mm larger bore with the same stroke so it would probably work.

I did a wood boss to super swap once and I ended up with too much squish and thus only 125psi compression. I used a white box piston tho so that may be what went wrong.

Yeh that would be odd if they have the same stroke.

The piston was only like $14 on eBay and didn't have a brand name on the box so that might have been what went wrong. My cylinder was good but the rings were stuck so bad I had to get a new piston. I had a super with a locked up crankshaft and bearing and a wood boss with stripped spark plug threads.

I just looked in the manual 028 and 038 have same stroke.must have been a bad piston.

I don't think anyone mentioned changing a 28 to a 38..that would be worthwhile if you could do it but I doubt that. I've had both saws and the 028 seems to be a smaller saw. My 038 is a 52mm bore..

028 stroke 31 mm, 038 stroke 33 mm,you read your manual wrong.
