Stihl 038 Magnum project

My next saw. I picked it up a year ago, missing the bar, chain, clutch cover. Has a small crack in the top cover, otherwise a low hour saw. Looks to be a late model as the chain brake warning shows ‘94. I don’t know why it was put out. I have a couple suspicions but I know it’s not because of a burnt piston. It’s perfect and shows 170 psi. I’ve wanted an 038 magnum for a long time. I’m eager to get it running and try it against my 10mm 044. I just picked up 3 Stihl bars, the 25” will fit nice.

Looks to be a 038Mag II based on the model plate.
I'd replace the crankshaft seals just to be safe, and if it wasn't an alcoholic it ought to be ready to run.

I was thinking the same. Too awesome a saw to ruin from an air leak.

Cool, Ill have to check it out. Ill have to try my hand ay plastic welding too, see if I can repair that cover.
