Stihl 039 8 or 9 pin rim?

Setting up an 039 with an 18 inch .325 bar and chain, and am trying to decide if I should use a 8 or 9 tooth rim.

Any thoughts?

I would think an 8, but try both rims are cheap. The only thing is you may need 1 longer link when going to a 9.

Not sure what you're cutting but I have an 039 and it handles a 20" bar with 3/8" chain but I can't imagine it would be happy with a 9 pin sprocket and .325. Even an 8 pin would be pushing it in my opinion...

A .325 8-pin would be close to a 3/8 7-pin. I wouldn't consider a 9-pin .325.

You'll have to try it and see. Your mileage may vary.
