Does anyone know of any place that might have a stihl 048 cylinder and piston kit for sale?? I dont care if its OEM stihl or aftermarket as long as its new or it can be used if it is OEM.

That is a no go on a aftermarket cylinder because there has never been one made, though you can find some pistons on Ebay. Every once in a while you will see a complete top end on Ebay but they usually go pretty quick. You can also install a 042 top end, though it is a smaller displacement and you are still in the same boat with aftermarket parts.

Thank you both for the reply.

I am just wondering what does a good running used stihl 048 sell for?

Depends greatly on condition. Again, they're rare enough that you're going to have trouble finding many that have sold to see what they sold for. Mine has an 042 tank.

I have seen them sell anywhere from 75 to 300. The ones that seem to bring the most are the 048 Supers, seems that there were very few of them made. May want to try posting a wanted ad in the classifieds on this site or in the Swap Meet thread found in the Stickies sub forum. I found my 048 top end with a fellow member in Canada.

Fellas -

Bumping an OLD thread. Looking for a good piston for an 048. I haven't disassembled it, but I think the jug is probably good. No luck finding NOS, but there are a few options for aftermarket. I was hoping to find a Meteor, but not finding any. Here's what I'm finding with a search:

https://www.amazon.com/Piston-Replaces-1117-030-2001-Quality-Tooling/dp/B01MROP0D4 - this one is from the Lil Red Barn for $34.95 - looks like it's made in Japan, not China. Said to be high quality.

https://shop.saegenspezi.de/piston-fits-Stihl-048-AV-048AV-52mm - from Saegenspezi in Germany for $20.

https://www.ebay.com/i/291797873460?rt=nc - Golf, on eBay for $30.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stihl-048-piston-kit-52mm-/130649490442?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10 - $20 on eBay from HL Supply. Looks like this is a Golf kit, too.

I'm inclined to go with the Lil Red Barn piston from Amazon. Might throw some Caber rings on it, just to be safe.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Scott

I use saegenspezi kits in two 044s with no problem, I figure the 048 piston will work just fine...shipping is only 10 euros fro them, so it would be the cheapest option...I have an 048 super, the cylinder is marked +++ it's got a pressure can muffler an a WS25 carb which is a little bigger.....supposed to be a tad more powerful

Yep. Got my 045 NOS jug and piston from him. But I'm looking for the 048 piston, not the 042. I ended up ordering from LRB.

Thanks
Hello Sir, I know this is an old thread (very old) but I wondered how the 048 piston from LRB worked out for you. I've just picked up an extremely tidy 048 that's apparently been straight gassed, and I'm keen to know how this went for you.
