I recently acquired a nearly full spool of low profile semi-chisel. I know it’s 3/8 & .050 and low profile. This is the size I run on all my saws (minus the MS150TC, for obvious reasons). However, I have always run RS or RSF.

What little info I have found, is that it’s not recommended for anything bigger than 40cc/2.5hp. Excluding my 150 top handle, my smallest saw is a 261 and then it’s a 362CM and up.

What I’m looking for, is any info or experience anyone has with this chain. It has yellow master links, but the warning I read on bailey’s for the loop that was available (appears to be phased out now) has me nervous to run this chain.

I’ve used tons of that chain and it cuts very well. If you use RS or RSF then what is there to be nervous about? RS and RSF is yellow too. It just means that it doesn’t have the ramped humps next to the raker like the green chains so it’s more (slightly) likely to kickback. You also cannot use it on the 261 or 362 because the drive link is different than the regular 3/8 chain.

That’s one of the things I’m curious about. My smallest saw is 4hp, the warning on Bailey’s was to not use 63PM on anything over 2.5hp. That’s a significant difference. I’m assuming this has to do wth tensile strength. ‍♂️

Also, thank you for the info about the drive links!

Nervous??
Why??
I thought I explained this in my original post, but I’ll take another shot at it.

The only place I could find this chain online, was baileys. It has a warning that this chain (PM) should NOT be used on a saw exceeding 40cc / 2.5 hp. All of my saw exceed one or both of these limits (except my 150TC.

No, I have NEVER run this chain (PM) on any saws. I just got the reel last night. High temps are mid 90s and humidity is close to the same... not spinning loops in this!!!

I know a guy that runs pm chain on his 026, he seems to like it. I don't think it is especiously dangerous to do so.
Maybe they are "warning" folks, so they won't think it is a full 3/8 chain.

You can get a kit from Canada and the UK to run 16” PS/PS3 on the 261

I actually bought the kit and have never used it because A week later I bought a 241 so i just run the PS on that and kept .325 on the 261.

Yeah, all that sounds a bit more complicated than what I want to deal with! So, shifting gears, I’m probably going to be listing this for sale in the near future. Anybody have an idea of what this stuff should go for? Granted, I was expecting about 100’ of RS... So, to say I’m disappointed would be an understatement!

I prefer to have the least variation in loops between all my saws. Currently, I have two. From a 261 up to my 440mag it’s either a 20” or 25” bar and chain. All 3/8 x .050 RS or RSF.
