So looks like 8 pin is pretty ok on even a non ported 661 ...at least up to 28" so far.

Would be interesting to try full comp 7 v 8 @ 36".

Not surprising the full comp beat the full skip. The 8 pin being faster on both shows the torque of the 661.
You're run of the mill stock saw would have problems with a 28" 8 pin with full comp. Strong saw for sure.

I have a well broke in 661. I use a 8 pin for more chain speed using shorter bars up to 28 inch. 7 pin for more torque using longer bars. Great saw imo. I use mine for everything from logging to firewood to pre commercial thinning.

With a 28 inch stihl light bar it feels very similar in weight to a 461. Just bulkier.

So since this topic is about the ms 661, does anyone know if there is a dual port muffler cover for it? Or max flow air filter kit?

so i put out a vid with the 660 vs 661 36" ...661 killed 660. 661 was stock, 660 had a 3x muff. 7 pin vs 7 pin

so that was a while ago.

Later on, I did a compare between them with 24" bar 3/8ths again 7pin's

9.1avg 661 vs 10.4 660
23.1avg 661 vs 24.8 660
34.2avg 661 vs 41.3 - long cut on hardwood

but with this new info of how good the 661 does with the 8pin. I don't think im going to release it. Bottom line 660 can't handle 8pin and 661 can ...and it should be shown that way. IMO.

660 7 vs 8 with only a 20" bar

but I have no more 660's so it'll never happen. oh how I would love to do that one!...

661 muff mod 8 pin RS 3/8 24" bar
vs
660 muff mod 7 pin RS 3/8 24" bar

661 would destroy the 660

I've ran one and it cut good but it wasn't a strong ported 660 by any stretch. I have more than a few ported 660's and it didn't seem close to me, it is a strong stock saw for sure just not a ported 660 strong. It takes a beast of a saw to b faster with a 8 pin with full comp and a long bar.

Does that flat orange piece with the black twist lock come with the maxflo?
Nope.......... thats some of the work mdavlee was saying needs to be done

HD2 sucks ................. use it for what its good for, but the 661 definately needs to breathe.
Stock cover still fits in rain too
