He must be good mate, his website is closed down due to exceeding his bandwidth quota. And with that big pond email address you know he means business ;-)

I'll drop in on this guy and check him out, but as for being 'in Sydney', he's pretty much the same distance as Hornsby. Probably a 2hr return drive from CBD.

Is he a full dealer? ie has the full range of pro saws in stock, a generous spare parts bin, roll chain and bulk oils in stock?

I have met Gordy, through mcbob, he is a gentlemen, he's getting old but he knows his product. I am not sure of what he carries in store but i can tell you he is cluey and has had experience in saw raceing and building from years ago. (from what ive been told he was very good in his day)
Gordy has in the past traveled up from sydney to watch our raceing.

Stihl has been an issue in the racing arena also, heard of way to many oraginizers of race meeting complaining about stihl, stihl has a policy that they are the only chainsaw company to sponsor a race meet, if any other manufacture sponsors or even advertises there they will pull out. (of course when I got wind of this I would wear a t-shirt with a large H on it to go along with them orange saws I use  and I have had a few organizers pleading with me to change my shirt) And I find it very ironic that many of the past world champions for stihl timbersports are from either aus or nz but there are no sts events here

In regards with pricing, all forestry equipement seem to be in the same boat. Had a work colleage travel to Canada to buy a used 525 Cat Skidder, after paying for it, dealing with AQIS(skidder was taken apart twice to be cleaned at his expense) and paying for transport he was still paying less than half what he would of paid for an older used machine here.

And don't get me started on what we have to pay for a Landcruiser and Patrol utes here (vehicles in general for that matter):angry2:

I think its the same story for most types of small business in australia unfortunately. My dealings with Marriot (bandit chippers) have been pretty bad, and so have most of my buddys who run bandit. They can take a month to get back to you with a price on parts, which you needed to have yesterday. It goes without sayng that they trip all over each other to blow you if you wal in the door ready to buy a new machine, but by treating average everyday customers like dirt they ensure that when that next generation of tree business owners is in a position to buy new, they'll be importing themselves for half the price. A buddy who bought a brand new 1890 from Marriot a few years back still gets treated like a nobody, because he hasn't bought a new machine this year. Vermeer is a bit better from my experience, but still room for improvement.

the stihl dealer up Batemans bay will deliver anything I need on his way home seeing he lives in the close by, saving me a drive! actually there not to bad even there stihl bars are same price's as GB or others. same as any other business, you scratch his back he'll scratch yours.

[Still here just watching the banter unfold, to be honest I joined this forum because i thought I could learn something but it appears as though its just an avenue for people to express personal opinions and their "What they think is right" And just because I have facts doesnt mean I work for Stihl, the info I supplied in my post was obtained by simply going into the stores and asking questions out of intrest I'm no detective anybody can do the same thing. I'm not here to get caught up in a slanging match with someody thats has not done their homework before they post, I dont have time i'd rather be sharpening a chain I get more enjoyment out of that! I like using saws so I joined, but I think I might look for another site, its a shame but this sites not for me.
QUOTE=Graham99;4104539]I notice the "Stihl marketing guy" has gone to ground. No comeback for his BS.

I got my saw from a respected member on this forum who got it from the US. He was happy, and I am extremely happy. I figure it will only screw up if I do something dumb with it, then I will suck it up and deal with it. I doubt I will do something dumb with it though.[/QUOTE]

There is a lot of information on this site but my question if looking for saw info is this...

1) Why if you were searching for saw info would you resurrect an old thread with no major saw info in it.

2) Why in your first post would you call someone you don't know a dill?

Also I would suggest you do your homework a bit more on how much influence Stihl has on the pricing their dealers do. For the record Australian Stihl dealers are reading this thread but can't openly have any input. That's the type of influence Stihl wield over their dealers. The ACCC has absolutely no jurisdiction over Stihl dealer rules. If you are seen to be devaluing Stihl's image you'll certainly hear about it.

Also we aren't buying online so to speak. We are buying via legitimate Stihl/Husky dealers in the US. We're not the sort of morons who think you can buy a new MS660 on eBay from Hong Kong for $500.
