So I need to replace the HD style air filter on my Stihl 064 (it's smashed) but in looking for a replacement, I've noticed there are [at least] 3 different designs and was interested to learn what the pros and cons of each are.

Nylon? screened w/felt cloth band - sometimes with foam inside? sometimes not?

Cotton gauze? paper?/mesh - do these need to be washed and oiled like a K&N filter? or dry?

Foam - if I understand correctly these do require regular wash and re-oiling

Interested in your information, experience, comments on anything about these and about pro and cons - thanks guys!

I read (on this site) that the HD2 is more or less the only one that works like it should.

Don't know tho, im using the standard nylon mesh one, all sorts of dust go past it. :)

just get the HD2 and be done with it.

Part number 0000 140 4402

Wow, 4 for 4 on the HD2...sounds like a win - except that it costs 60$!?!?

Since you all converted, anyone want to send me their old one so I can run with at least something until my budget allows for the latest and greatest? :msp_rolleyes:

you can find the brand new oem hd1 filters on ebay for under 30.

The one from Stens is not bad at all, and cost me about 15 from my dealer. I'd prefer the HD2, but it's more money than I have into the 460 thus far.
