I'm interested, I love the 1122s. There is always a Time x $ calculation though. It will be good to see what can be done with mag rot

Yeah agreed! I expect to be able to do the whole
rebuild with oem parts for about $200 - $250.

Margot damage will likely just be left if it doesn’t affect function. I’ll probably use something to neutralise it after cleaning. Bicarb soda? This will be a case of repair for as cheap as I can and save / use what I have and not be concerned about using and abusing it.

This will be a repair rather than a resto.

ive fixed a few 1122 series saws with mag rot or abrasive damage on the clutch side with jb weld and dams made from tape to keep the stuff where it was needed.
Been effective repair that has lasted heavy use and still looks like its bonded solidly to the damaged areas.

Well, as mag corrosion goes, and what you paid for my opinion, that does not look like much.

IOW, it looks worse than it it is. Coat it with whatever you get a dozen opinions about and run it.

I would just run it but if it brothers ya you could always get a china case and than use the stihl crank, rod, and bearings.

Looks pretty normal for a well used saw. Fix it right and run it.

It looks like you would be better of with a new/used case half. Did you pressure test it to see if it was leaking through the case? That may be why it was trashed.

Hey, na there wasn’t a cylinder to be able to pressure test it lol. It’s got shot main bearings and no PTO seal left to speak of. It’s a mess lol. Piston looks good apart from the fragments from the bearing hitting it!

Close up of the mag rot. As @rogue60 mentioned to me, the lack of supports for the brake band will cause it to rub the clutch drum - not ideal. I can do a jb weld repair, but we’ll see.

I'd say that's replace time, that just looks like a problem waiting to happen.

Yeah it’s rough, I’d rather go used oem which is more in keeping with the condition of the other parts, rather than AM, but I’ll see what’s about.

Time to fabricate up some brake band supports out of jb, had to do that to other saws inc the 661.

thanks mate, I’m in Australia so postage is expensive lol. Rogue may have some cases I’ll see if I can buy if I go that route.

Yeah quite right mate, I’ll see if rogue has some decent cases I can buy first, if not I’ll use some jb weld or jb putty and make them.

The case is definitely getting weaker with that much mag rot. I try to save most of the 1122 parts that can be fixed or used.

Acid dip and fine aluminum dust in your JB will also work well but takes time.

Yeah agreed with yourself and trains it can be saved, it’s just a time vs cost factor.
