That's true, I think for a m5 you have to use a m8 tap.I’ve used these before on husky 288 top cover screws. This style does consume a larger amount of side wall then a traditional heli coil. So if that is close to the edge of a casting it might just break it off.
I'm talking about the thread inserts. The thread inserts are good if you want to keep the original screw size.can't you go up to 6mm
