Hydro form them is the best, neatest way.
Most guys weld them, so they can make it a neater fit around the brake handle etc.
That's a very specialised job, guys like me are flat out changing a spark plug, let alone something so technical..... There is a couple of guys on the thread that are pretty handy in the calculated design of a particular pipe suited to whichever saw they choose to put it on!

Pfffft. You race guys always try to make tuned pipes sound so technical but I've been hammering successful race pipes out of old 20L oil drums since I was 10 years old.

I think I'll give the wattle a go free hand with the saw.

It does have the old grub lines in them....but to. Arying degrees..

Beautiful timber, reminds me of burl Walnut somewhat.....

Is it black wattle chippy? We've got heaps down the farm and if it's green it's not too bad but when it dies off it gets real hard and abrasive.

Yeah, it is Rob.

What I've put aside is the stump cuts or pretty close and they tend to stay moist longer.

Cutting it bone dry with full oil is guaranteed to have sparks flying off the chain....but it's great to burn too.

I could have some spear wattle in my mix, I couldn't tell as they'd been down for a couple of years and lost all foliage. Spear wattle is one of the hardest timber I know of that grows in Vic

Yeah it is better down near the stump that's for sure. We burn a heap of it and yep cutting the old dry smaller bits just before dark there is alot of sparks! [emoji2]

Actually, it's probably not spear wattle...that term is used for a wattle that grows mostly in QLD WA and NT. 948 DIFFERENT species of acacia in Australia.....so far....lol so maybe it's really really dark wattle and not black....who knits but the common one round here everyone refers to it as black wattle

I've got a heap of wattle here that I dropped at the local golf club maybe 5-6 years ago. Beautiful timber with pale and dark brown rings. I gave a heap to a local wood turner and he cracked a hard on after he played with some. I had flowers, leaves, bark, you name it so we could ID it. This woodturner had dozens of books on acacia identification etc. In the end we gave up as we simply couldn't positively identify it. He did a heap of bowls up to sell at shows and he was bummed that he couldn't write the scientific name of the wood on the bottom of the bowl because we simply couldn't work out exactly what it was. Hard as all hell but polished up like a mirror.

The Racing Oz saw is running fine.....it's not a bad little climbing saw and it's great for knocking off limbs I leave on logs cause I was racing to fill the trailer...for the money nothing comes close, except maybe a large pack of condoms.

was having a look at a couple of my mates Stihls today and he gets everything done to them in a shop at Deer Park.....both had the square profile chains on them and the points were pin/razor sharp, and both chains had a 30 degree rake on one side and about a 10 degree rake on the other....he didn't manage to do one straight cut today... I didn't say a word...lol.
