Thank you very much. This is the only tree I have like this on my property so I guess I won’t cut it down.Catalpa
Thanks for the info, I will definitely keep it around for a while and then harvest it for a project years down the road. It's good carving wood. Also one of the most dimensionally stable woods, has nice grain and easy to work.
Thank you! It's beautiful wood. I still have a long way to go, but most of the trim is done, and most of the kitchen drawers are built... It's been quite a project, and a lot of fun!Nice work with that Catalpa man.
My step father told me that I should leave the tree and harvest the catalpa worms for catfish bait since we live by the lake.View attachment 748734 View attachment 748735 The wood has an interesting odor when cut. There is a species of caterpillar that eat the leaves off the ones I have every year. They make really good fishing bait. I don’t get the bean looking things every year though. That is one behind the cab of my truck. You can see where the big limb was cut and the new growth is only a few years old . The other pic is that highly prized caterpillar.
I will get the pole saw out tomorrow and cut a branch and get a better picture of the leaves and post it. I appreciate the helpThat is not basswood bark. Also the leaves wouldn't be symmetrical. Honestly not sure what it is...but not Tilia
