I picked up a used 27 troy bilt log splitter cylinder today to replace the one that went bottoms up, and the cylinder has a leak in the front cover where the rod passes through. The cover has two bolts on each side, but after removing the cover still doesnt want to tap in no matter how much I tapped on it.Anyone know of something else you are supposed to do to get this thing out? Worked on many cylinders before ,but never had one this dogged about coming out.

I don't have a clue what you got going on there without a pic but experience has taught me to look for any small holes that a punch can be inserted into to release a snap ring.Unless its threaded in then you have a different situation.
